Lamia Productions

Lamia is a film production company founded by film director Helena Taberna, that is also the manager of the company amongside Iker Ganuza.

On  2008, Lamia Producciones released Helena Taberna’s feature La Buena Nueva, with Unax Ugalde and Barbara Goenaga. This film, distributed with 80 copies by Golem, remained on the bill for 12 weeks and was seen by around 100,000 spectators.  La Buena Nueva has participated in some of the most important international festivals in the world, including the Pusan and Cairo International Film Festivals. It was officially released in the Official Selection at the Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci, 2008), where Unax Ugalde carried off the Best Leading Actor Award. Throughout 2009, La Buena Nueva has featured on the programme of several festivals in Spain and abroad, such as the Chicago Latino Film Festival, the Official Selection of the Uruguay International Festival, the Montreal Festival or the Official Selection of the Nantes Spanish Film Festival at which the movie bagged the Audience Award. 

Lamia also participated in the production of the feature film Yoyes, a succesfull film that participated in Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and won several international film festivals awards, among them: Jury’s Best Film Award at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Mazatlán (México), three awards at the Festival de Viña del Mar (Chile), the Award to the Best Opera Prima at the Festival Internacional de Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), the Public’s Best Film Award at the Festival de Cine de Santo Domingo (República Dominicana).

Extranjeras [Foreign Women], produced also by Lamia Producciones is a documentary feature thas was released in theatres in Spain. The film was premiered in 2003 at the Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid (Spain) and awarded in several internacional films festivals: First Prize at the Festival Internacional “Voces Contra el Silencio” of México D.F. and the Public’s Award at the Festival Itinerante de Derechos Humanos. Extranjeras has also participated in Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, Miami Latino Film Festival, Festival Cinespaña de Toulouse, Festival de Marseille, Forum de Barcelona, Festival Internacional de Derechos Humanos de Argentina, Festival de Cine y Mujer (San José de Puerto Rico), Festibercine in Costa Rica (where it was granted the Jury’s Mención de Honor) and closed the Forum Mundial das culturas in Sâo Paulo, Brasil.
